Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of warm weather and beach season on the Jersey shore, as tourists from all over flock to the beautiful beaches we have so close to home. “The trendy restaurants and shops of Pier Village have enlivened this historic oceanfront resort,” says New Jersey Monthly. It hosts restaurants such as McLoone’s, Stewart’s, and the recently opened Playa Bowls! These eateries host a finer, old fashioned, and healthy eating option for everyone.

If you’re also into the music scene, you can check out the many concerts that Pier Village will be hosting this summer. There’s nothing better than kicking back and relaxing with your beach chair while listening to local music. The concert season officially starts on June 12th with “Bands by the Sea,” and Philadelphia Funk performing at 7pm. Bring your family and enjoy a perfect night on the beach!

If I could give any personal recommendations on what are the best beaches to hit, I would definitely try North End Beach in Long Branch, as it is in a quieter location and has great rates for kids and families. (Weekdays, $5; ages 14-17, $3. Weekends & holidays, $7; ages 14-17, $3. Seniors and 13 & under, free.) If you’re looking for something a little more upscale, make the trip to the Bay Head/Point Pleasant area for Jenkinson’s Boardwalk and a relaxing getaway. (Daily, $8; 11 and under, free). The little town hosts such a wide variety of things to do that it will surely be a fun getaway. But, don’t forget to apply sunscreen and remember to reapply after you go in the ocean. Sunglasses protect your eyes from UV rays and reduce the risk of cataracts, and reapplying prevents skin cancer in the future. Putting a thick layer on all parts of exposed skin will provide the best protection against a painful sunburn.
