Introducing President Trump

The nation received a new president on January 20th. Swearing in at noon, Donald Trump promised to “give back the power” to “the people”. In a highly anticipated 26 minute inaugural address, President Trump thanked those that came before him but seemingly went on the attack soon after.

While Trump thanked the Obamas and past presidents initially, the tone of his speech quickly changed. Trump addressed the crowd: “You came by the tens of millions to become part of a historic movement, the likes of which the world has never seen before.” As the rain began to fall, Trump continued to rally those that came to witness this “movement” first hand. While questioning the intent of Washington, Trump addressed those Americans who have been seemingly “forgotten”: “mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of all knowledge; and the crime and the gangs and the drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential. The majority of his speech was similar in tone. Many critics argued his inaugural speech was similar to those that he had given on the campaign trail, rebel-rousing and explosive.

With past presidents such as a George Bush, Bill Clinton, and now Barack Obama looking on, Donald Trump has officially taken stage as the 45th President of the United States.
