It’s prom season

Aleka Damiano and Anna Greenberg

The junior prom was held on Saturday, May 7th. The theme was “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and took place at Monmouth University in Anakin Hall. Before the prom, Mrs. DeFino, class adviser, was interviewed about the upcoming event. She credited Katie Lamb, Taylor Sniffen and Emily Ronan with being instrumental in the planning of the night. Mrs. DeFino was also excited to mention that in lieu of party favors, a donation would be made to the Alexander Munoz Memorial Fund.

To ensure the safety of all attendants, various security measures were taken and overseen by Mrs. Czajkowski. For example, the “Foggles” program was instituted, which is a program designed to warn about the dangers of drunk driving.  It was held at the school over the period of two days prior to the weekend of the prom. Students were able to put on goggles that gave them vision similar to that one would have while under the influence of alcohol. “Mission Prom” also came to the school and held a mandatory meeting that required all students, along with a parent, to attend to learn more about the dangers of drug and alcohol use.

To find out about the overall experience of prom and its success we interviewed junior, Sam Villa. She rated the overall experience an 8 out of 10, but her only criticism was of the music. Her only wish was that the DJ had taken requests to better satisfy the students’ dancing experience. However, she praised the venue, Anakin Hall, as well as the decorations which stayed true to the “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” theme. Sam also did not forget to mention the photo booth, which many students took advantage of for some fun photos to take home.

The senior prom will take place at  the Waterview Pavilion in Belmar, on June 3rd. Hopefully it will run just as smoothly as the junior prom did, and be an unforgettable experience for all the graduating seniors!
