Released across theaters on September 2nd and starring Academy Award winner Alicia Vikander and Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender, The Light Between Oceans spans the life of a loving couple who face several trials and tribulations throughout their tumultuous marriage.

Based on a novel by M.L. Stedman,  the film depicts a heart-wrenching tale of “tough love” and moral evaluation while simultaneously exploring the struggle of emotional isolation. “At times, the film is a powerful, pensive work about loneliness and human connection” reviews David Sims, a columnist for The Atlantic Magazine. The film’s imagery powerfully conveys such messages of solitude through breathtaking cinematography and vast landscapes from both New Zealand and Australia. Although quite different from the rest of his filmography, director Derek Cianfrance achieves cinematic superiority with this tale of woe.

Bring tissues and prepare for a much needed hug after watching The Light Between Oceans, currently in theaters!
