The 13th of February now has a new name, Galentine’s Day, a day dedicated to self love and your love for your girlfriends. Forget the chocolate, roses, and corny movies, Galentine’s Day is all about ladies celebrating ladies. This new holiday was created in an episode of the show Parks and Recreation. On the show, Amy Poehler plays Leslie Knope who introduces the idea of Galentine’s Day. Leslie Knope explains that each year her and her girlfriends leave their husbands and boyfriends at home and celebrate their best girlfriends. The episode aired in 2010 and since then, the idea of Galentine’s Day is publicized more and more each year.

All over the world, women gather together on February 13th to celebrate women together. How do women celebrate Galentine’s Day? That might be the biggest question of all. However, the answer is fairly simple: brunch. As introduced on Parks and Recreation, waffles and friends are the best way to celebrate this holiday. Galentine’s Day, according to Leslie Knope, is not a day to watch what you eat, no diets. Instead, it is a day to not even care about what is being consumed. The best way to celebrate this holiday is to eat tons and tons of waffles, and celebrate the women in your life. Galentine’s Day focuses on women and women empowerment. Thanks to the Parks and Recreation, Galentine’s Day has become a real holiday among women, celebrated by many world wide.
