Kourtney Rose Gillette was just nine years old when she passed away from brainstem glioma, a rare brain tumor, just four months after being diagnosed. In 2006 Kourtney’s parents took action and established The Kourtney Rose Foundation in honor of their daughter.

The foundation’s mission is to find better treatments and cures for brain tumors for other children just like Kourtney. The Kourtney Rose Foundation has raised over 1.5 million dollars for pediatric brain cancer and central nervous system tumor research. Over the past decade its funding has helped establish the Children’s Brain Tumor and Tissue Consortium at CHOP.

On September 22, in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Shore Regional High School Interact members volunteered to help raise money for the foundation. In conjunction with “Go Gold in September” volunteers informed customers about The Kourtney Rose Foundation and collected donations outside of Bagelmasters in Shrewsbury. Not only did the event raise money for the foundation but it also helped spread word about funding for childhood cancer research.

The Kourtney Rose Foundation will be holding a second fundraising event at Shore Regional’s football game on Friday, September 28th.Contact Mrs. Encarnacion, Interact adviser, with any questions regarding future events.
