CBS’s New Series is Super

On October 26th, CBS premiered a new show, the action-drama, Supergirl. Starring Melissa Benoist, Supergirl is a clever show that introduces us to the life of Superman’s unheard of cousin, Kara Zor-El, or Kara Danvers, as she is known on Earth. In the show, Kara becomes worked into Superman’s backstory and we are drawn into her life.

The show starts at the beginning of Superman’s story, or so we think. We learn that Kara Zor-El was sent to Earth along with her baby cousin, Superman, from their planet, Krypton, which was being slowly destroyed. On her journey there, her ship got damaged and she was stuck in a vortex where no time passed. She eventually got pulled out of it, and when she reached Earth 24 years later, she was still 13 years old.  Superman didn’t need her protection and she was put under the care of a foster family. She then began her life as a normal human.

We flash forward to Kara as an adult, working as an assistant for the demanding Cat Grant, played by Calista Flockhart. She has lived without her powers ever since she landed on Earth, and has had no communication with Superman, except for when she sees him on the news. But when Kara’s sister, played by Chyler Leigh, faces disaster, an impulse reaction brings out the Supergirl inside her.

Supergirl is a suspenseful and action packed series that is designed to be watched by all members of the family. Whether you’re an old time Superman fan or know next to nothing about superheroes, this show is sure to peak your interest. It definitely has me hooked. The plot moves quickly and will hold your interest from beginning of episode to the end. Then it has you counting down the days until the next episode, on Mondays at 8:00 pm. The show Supergirl can only be summed up in word, obviously: super.
