Trumping the Competition Despite the Odds

On Wednesday, March 30, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump publicly announced that he thinks women should be punished for terminating their pregnancies. This was before he revoked his statement and reversed it, saying that the doctors performing the abortions should be held responsible. He said in his second statement, the doctor or any other person performing this illegal act upon a woman would be held legally responsible, not the woman. The woman is a victim in this case, as is the life in her womb.” After his recent controversial comments, Trump is being referred to as a “zombie candidate” by the New York Times. In other words, despite comments and questionable ideals, he is still in the race to win the Republican nomination for presidency. In relation to a zombie, his reputation is broken, but he is still unstoppable. It is still likely that Trump will win the nomination, he currently holds 46% of the Republican vote. This information was computed through a poll released by the New York Times/CBS News last week, which also displayed Ted Cruz with 26% of the vote and John Kasich with only 20%. As the primaries will be taking place in New York this upcoming week, all eyes will be focused on Trump; winning these delegates could be a game changer for any candidate. The predictability of this race has been a challenge and as long as Trump continues to shock and awe, while continuing to win more votes, there is no telling what will happen in the coming weeks.
