The Future Educators Association held their annual Teacher for the Day experience on Thursday, April 7th. Seventeen students applied to be mentored by a Shore Regional faculty member. Student teachers were tasked with completing all of the duties of their mentor teacher. Junior Megan Tallard, mentored by Mrs. Lavin, said she “presented a powerpoint to a class and helped wire projects and hung them up while completing an Art display case.” Students were given the opportunity to take attendance, create lesson plans, design assessments and observe classroom management. Senior Casey Birdsall commented that “I think the best thing from the experience was that you are able to ‘put yourself in a teacher’s shoes’.” When asked why she feels this experience is important for students to take part in, FEA advisor Mrs. Martin replied, “Teacher for the Day gives young, aspiring educators a first hand experience of the daily routine and responsibilities of teachers. It allows them to gain insight into a world they one day hope to become a part of while being mentored by esteemed educators”. Teacher for the Day is an annual event which encourages all grade-levels to apply.
