Who Did Negan Kill? Speculation

It’s been a week since The Walking Dead completed its sixth season. Instead of showing us who was killed off in the last minutes of the finale, producers left viewers with nothing to do but speculate. And that’s exactly what everyone has been doing. Everyone is so sure of themselves, yet everyone is coming up with different victims. Personally, I think it was the ex-soldier, Abraham. This is my thought process as to how I decided Abraham.

In the dramatic moment, there are 11 potential victims: Rick, Maggie, Abraham, Michonne, Daryl, Rosita, Glenn, Sasha, Aaron, Carl, and Eugene.

Right before Negan swings down on the mystery person, he states, “Anybody moves, anybody says anything, cut the boy’s other eye out and feed it to his father.” In this situation, the boy is Carl and the father is Rick. This eliminates both of them from being killed. Also, when Negan says, “the boy’s,” he gestures to his right, as if indicating that Carl is to his right. If this is the case, we can now cross Eugene off the list too because he is on the other side of Carl. This still leaves us with eight possible people. However, many people are overlooking one key thing. We see the last few minutes of the episode through someone’s point of view. This person is the person that gets killed. When the camera goes to the person’s point of view, the image is clear. This indicates that the victim has short hair or that the hair is not hanging down in front of the person’s eyes. This eliminates: Daryl, Glenn, Michonne, and Maggie. All of these people have at least some strands of hair that would be obscuring their view and would be visible when it switches to first person.

In the comics, Negan doesn’t kill women or children. I think that the producers will remain faithful with this character trait in the show. Going by this logic, it eliminates Sasha and Rosita. Now we are just down to two: Aaron and Abraham. Out of these two, Abraham makes the most sense to kill off.

Negan’s arrival in the comic book series is one of the biggest moments in its history. In order to do it justice in the show, someone big has to die. Abraham isn’t a huge character, but his death would surely pack a punch to the viewer’s hearts. Also, the Abraham in the show has outlived the Abraham in the comics, thus putting a big, red bullseye on his back. When the group is captured in the show, everyone is scared or intimidated by Negan, but not Abraham. In order to teach Rick’s group a lesson, that Negan is someone to be scared of, he should kill off the person that shows the least amount of intimidation and one of the strongest members in Rick’s group. The timing is also right for Abraham’s death. The show gave him a lot of screen time earlier in the season. It humanized him and made the audience really root for him. This is never a good sign. Producers always spend extra time with the character they are going to kill off so it packs a bigger blow. I think that’s exactly what’s going on here.

To recap, I think Abraham is the mystery death in the season six finale because, he is a big enough character to have people be upset at his death, he outlived his comic book counterpart, he wasn’t intimidated by Negan, he’s one of the group’s strongest members and he was given a lot of time in previous episodes.
Now it’s your turn. Who do you think was the unlucky victim of the finale?
