The weekend of October 29th marked the deadliest weekend so far in Chicago, coming after a fatal shooting of 17 people, 7 of which were under 20 years old .

As of October, there have been 600 homicides in Chicago, almost 3 times the amount of homicides last year.

Police and Mayor Rahm Emanuel blame the current spike in street violence on increased gang activity and a lack of gun law enforcement. Two of the weekend slain were 17 year old twins, Edward and Edwin Bryant. They were killed early Sunday morning, in what looked like a drive-by shooting. Neither brother was a documented gang member, but they were with known gang associates at the time of the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
