Since their opening on March 17th, the staff and students of Shore Players theater program have been hard at working putting together their annual spring production. Filled with the memorable tunes, vigorous dance numbers, and colorful lighting and set, the students’ reenactment of the heartwarming story has stirred up lots of talk throughout the high school’s hallways.
The musical is based on the famous tale of two children, Jane and Michael Banks, whose busy father decides to hire a nanny in order to get the children off his hands. To their surprise, their magical nanny Mary Poppins magically appears to take the job. Their father hires her, and from there on in Mary Poppins accompanied by her friends take Jane and Michael on a thrilling adventure full of fantasy and imagination. Her positive attitude and advice not only rub off on the Banks children, but also help teach the adults to have fun and that “anything can happen if you let it”.
Shore Regional’s stagecraft of the tale incorporates all of the wonderful lessons about rekindling relationships and finding the joy and fun in all. Starring Olivia Rescigno as the title character and Jake Cecero as Bert, the cast includes Jack Hester, Isabella Antoon, David LaPorta, Danielle Bristol, and many more. With the production’s second and final round of shows, tickets are nearly sold out. When asked about the show’s success, cast member and sophomore of Shore Regional TJ Macaluso states: “It’s not just a classic broadway musical, it’s a Disney family classic that almost every family know and loves”.
