September 29, 2017
At the national meeting of the United Nation’s General Assembly, President Trump delivered concerning news to the world’s diplomats. Among most recent national crises, the world has its watchful eye on North Korea. In recent months President Trump has spoken out about the North Korean threat, one of which would be various rocket test-launches. The president has made it clear that he will do everything in his power to defeat Kim Jong Un’s regime, if need be. However, on September 19th, his exact intentions were made quite clear. If North Korea continues to threaten America and its allies, our “patience” as a nation would soon run short, and there would be no other option but to utilize military force. Trump bluntly stated, “Rocket man is on a suicide mission for himself.” The President also stated before over 100 international diplomats that the U.S. would “totally destroy North Korea.”
Other remarks were made referring to other areas of concern in American and global politics, such as the Iran Deal, which Mr. Trump declared to be “dead.” After criticizing the Iranian government for aiding terrorists and for depleting its own economy and reputation, the president went on to state that the deal primarily enacted by Obama was an “…embarrassment to the US and I don’t think you’ve heard the last of it, believe me.”
Amongst other commentary, Trump resurrected his commonly used phrase “radical Islamic terror” which he has been criticised for using numerous time; many believe that such a remark is a generalization made to target all of Islam as the source of terrorism. Along with his denunciation of both Iran and North Korea, Trump shared his philosophy on foreign diplomacy. In summary he shared that if countries were to act primarily on their own interests, the international climate would remain stable. Trump declared to the world’s diplomats that he plans to only act on befitting the United States, as all other leader should be doing for their own countries.
