#GivingTuesday
December 5, 2017
As we know, spreading kindness feels great, but did you know there was a day based on this? This day is known as Giving Tuesday, a global movement of giving. This takes place the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. As you know the day after Thanksgiving, also known as Black Friday, features retailers offering great discounts to shoppers who are searching for holiday gifts at great prices. After Black Friday comes Cyber Monday, which features online sales similar to Black Friday. The hope is that people will take advantage of these sales, and then look to give on Tuesday.
Since 2012, there has been a global movement to make GivingTuesday, aka #GivingTuesday, as prevalent as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This year alone, 1,640,000 gifts and $177,000,000 have been raised for this cause in over 98 countries. New Jersey has stepped up and joined this movement. In South Jersey, the spirit of Giving Tuesday was seen when a homeless man received $300,000 in donations because of his small act of kindness in which he used his last few dollars to help a woman in need.
A single act of kindness can go a long way! Not only can you donate, but volunteering at a local soup kitchen or clothing drive are just a few ideas for ways that you can join the cause. Give your kindness to others that need it most! To join in on the movement google #GivingTuesday or visit www.givingtuesday.org.
