Joining Senora Sher and Madam Simonson, Mrs. Merino is the newest French and Spanish teacher to enter the World Languages department at Shore Regional. Mrs. Merino is a Shore alum and attended the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada, and New York University in Madrid, Spain. Merino majored in translation and has always loved teaching and helping others.

Joining a new faculty comes with developing relationships with new students. “I hope they would describe me as a nice teacher and having interesting classes as well as challenging. They could see me as quiet.” She describes herself as a hard-working, patient, and open-minded teacher. She finds it essential that she is patient in daily life and while teaching. Mrs. Merino really loves to travel and see new places. She thinks it is crucial to be open-minded when she is learning new cultures and going to new places. Junior Catalina Ferraro says Mrs.Merino makes “learning Spanish easy and fun! I never found Spanish so interesting. It is like she is Mrs.Gilbert’s daughter”.

Mrs. Merino credits speaking three languages and having extensive travel experience as a great way to build student relationships. When asked what here weaknesses could be, Mrs. Merino says being “overly enthusiastic about what she is teaching and expecting a lot from her students”.

Mrs. Merino’s teaching philosophy is to instill a love of languages and culture within the students. She loves seeing when students are engaged and interested in the class and is the main motivating factor in doing what she does.
