Mr. Chebookjian’s game plan for the 2019-2020 school year

When you walk into Athletic Director, Mr. Chebookjian’s office, it is clear that he is a sports fanatic. Football and baseball memorabilia fill the room, one can sense the love and dedication Mr. C. has for his job and Shore’s athletics. Since he was young, Mr. C has always wanted to be involved in athletics, playing football throughout childhood and his high school career. After graduating high school, Mr. C was intrigued by the opportunity to play football at Fairleigh Dickinson University as a freshman and he later when on to receive his first master’s degree at the university. After finishing at Fairleigh Dickinson, Mr. C continued his education at Monmouth University and received his second masters degree, later becoming a teacher and coach after graduating. While Mr. C enjoyed coaching and teaching, he wanted to take it to the next level and become an administrator of the athletic department.

As an administrator, Mr. C would describe himself as organized, dedicated and outgoing towards the faculty and students. When asking students how they would describe Mr. C, senior Quinn Harmon would describe Mr. C as, “hard-working, dedicated and enthusiastic”.

Mr. C set out to transcend his love of sports into his work, wanting to be involved with all the sports teams at Shore Regional and create memories with the coaches and athletes.

“I remember at the field hockey state final last year when Maggie Lamb got hit in the mouth. She came up to me, not a tear on her face and she screamed ‘I’m going back in!’ She scared me, but that’s the kind of dedication I love to see in my athletes” Mr. C says.

Being an Athletic Director has allowed Mr. C to become more interested in other sports, some of his favorites being field hockey, girls soccer and basketball. What Mr. C loves most about sports is the lessons it teaches his student athletes, saying it teaches them “dedication and teamwork”. What concerns Mr. C most about Shore Regional’s athletic program is the dwindling size of participants as the years progress.

“When I was younger, everyone played one sport in the fall, winter and spring. Students now focus on one sport because of club and travel teams,” Mr. C says regarding his concern.

While it may seem Mr. C works day in and day out for Shore Regional, he also finds time to spend with his family. Mr. C. enjoys going to his daughters’ travel basketball games, even though he was not the biggest basketball fan before they started. He states he would “drive two hours now to watch my daughter play two minutes” demonstrating what kind of family man he is outside of his job. Mr. C also enjoys activities that are outside of athletics- the school event he looks forward to the most is the Senior Award Ceremony.

Mr. C could not be more excited about the 2019-20 school year and the athletic opportunities and achievements our sports teams will have this year.
