Shore Cross Country eyes another sectional title

Joshua Beer, Staff Writer

It’s  November and that means its championship season. Both the boys and girls cross country teams are favorites to bring home their 2nd straight sectional title according to nj.milesplit.com. They are led by seniors Robert Weeden and Pari Walter, who both have high expectation, not only for sectionals but for states. In addition to both teams being ranked first in the section, they are also ranked 1st for the girls team and 2nd for boys in all of Group 1. The last time either team won the Group 1 State Championship was back in 2004, when the Girls team won their 4th straight title.

You would have to go back two more years in 2002 for the last time the boys cross country team won a State Championship. 2002 was also the last time when both teams took home the state title. Before they can think about states both teams must focus is about the sectionals that are fast approaching, November 9th to be exact. Even though Shore is a favorite they are still going to have to knock off a few impressive teams which include New Providence, Middlesex, and Delaware Valley. New Providence is Shore’s top competitor. If Shore is going to win their 2nd straight Sectional Title it has to start and end with their 5th guy and girl. The 5th guy/girl is the one who stops the clock and is the last person on your team to score. For both teams the 5th runner would have to be around 20th place, if they plan to repeat as Sectional Champions. Last year Shore did exactly that and brought home two sectional tiles.
