The top 10 biggest celebrity scandals of 2019

Grace Walker and Isabella Saponaro

2019 was a big year for celebrities in the media. Ordinary people were given their fair share of shocking scandals, each one sparking more controversy than the next. Some of the scandals are created more so by the audience, like the controversy surrounding Kylie Jenner being named the youngest “self-made” billionaire. People began to question if her family’s previous fame contributed to her wealth or if she truly built herself up.

Other scandals occurred between two celebrities and were advertised in the media, eliminating any sense of privacy and allowing the audience to sink their teeth into the downfall of the elite, like Tristan Thompson cheating on Khloe Kardashian with Kylie’s best friend, Jordan Woods. Either way, these ten scandals were all the talk during 2019 and almost everybody is familiar with the specific details of each event.

In order to create our list and rankings, we came up with thirteen scandals that we thought caused the biggest uproar in the media. We went in order of the scandals that were picked the most to create our ranking and left out the three that received the least votes. Based on votes from the Shore students, our final ranking for the biggest celebrity scandals are as follows:

  1. The College Admissions Scandal
  2. Micheal Jackson Sexual Abuse Allegations & Leaving Neverland Documentary
  3. James Charles and Tati Westbrook YouTube Drama
  4. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Divorce After Less than a Year of Marriage
  5. R. Kelly Sexual Assault Allegations and Surviving R. Kelly Documentary
  6. Khloe Kardashian, Tristan Thompson, and Jordan Woods Cheating Scandal
  7. Kylie Jenner Becoming the Youngest “Self-Made” Billionaire: Is she really self-made?
  8. Jersey Shore Star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino Going to Jail for Tax Evasion
  9. Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott Breakup
  10. Justin Timberlake Cheating Accusations

These scandals were all over the news and magazines making it almost impossible for people to not know about them. We talked to Shore Regional sophomore Jack Walker about his opinion on the topic and why he thought these scandals are so interesting to young people. He said,”because they feel like they know the people in the stories and sometimes they’re closer in age so they feel like they can relate to them. It gives people more of a glimpse into their lives and shows them that they’re not perfect, which is a little satisfying.”

All in all, ordinary people were relishing in the downfall of their favorite celebrities and influencers all throughout 2019, and we’re sure that 2020 will have no shortage of scandals of an even higher caliber. After all, we are entering the roaring twenties, and we can’t wait to see what the next year has in store.
