SHORE REGIONAL HIGH SCHOOL, WEST LONG BRANCH– Shore Regional is participating in its annual food drive, now through November 20, to benefit the Students Change Hunger Campaign.  All donations will be sent to the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean County.  Within Shore, the competition is among the Academic Study Periods (ASP), though all staff and students are encouraged to participate. The three ASPs who collect the most donations will earn pizza parties in December.  Seniors, who do not have an ASP are invited to bring donations to Mrs. Koontz’s room, A15, and for every five items they bring it they will be entered in a raffle to win either a Rook or Dough Co. gift card. 

Students Change Hunger is a competition in which The Federation of New Jersey Food Banks challenges students, staff, teachers, and parents to think of those less fortunate by hosting a food drive at their school. Shore Regional  is competing against other schools to see who can collect the most food for the local food bank, the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean County.  

According to the Students Change Hunger Campaign website, in New Jersey alone there are over 1.1 million people who don’t know where their next meal will come from on any given day. 400,000 of these people are children. The Federation of New Jersey Food Banks is an organization of five independent food bank corporations, including the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Together the federation provides over 75 millions pounds of emergency food, distributed through every county in New Jersey, reaching 1.2 million people at risk of hunger per year. By participating in the food drive competition, Shore Regional can contribute to these numbers, and make a difference.
