On May 19, the IB French, IB Italian and International Students attended a class trip to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. After spending time in class researching Italian immigration, IB Italian students deepened their understanding by walking in the footsteps of millions who passed through Ellis Island in search of a better life. The museum’s exhibits brought to life the emotional stories of hardship, hope, and perseverance that shaped the immigrant experience. Students experienced a fun and memorable day completing the interactive activities and exhibits of Ellis Island as well as checking the Wall of Honor for the names of ancestors.
After a ferry ride to Liberty Island, each student was able to climb the ten stories to the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty where they were greeted with the breathtaking view of lower Manhattan. The visit to the Statue of Liberty was especially meaningful to our IB French students who explored the monument’s French origins and symbolism. The perfect weather made the ferry ride and time on Liberty Island all the more enjoyable, allowing students to fully soak in the views and the history while creating a memorable experience for all
