Winter Sports Preview: Boys Swimming

Alyssa Pepsny, Staff Writer

As winter begins, the boys swimming team prepares for another great season. This year the team captains are Alex Patton and Rich Joyce while Mrs. McGowan is the head coach and Mr. Aprahamian is the assistant coach. Before the boys’ first met Mrs. McGowan told the Beacon in an email that, ¨The boys team is looking to improve upon last years’ record where they finished one under 500 for the season. This year, we hope to have a winning record.¨As you can tell, Mrs. McGowan has high hopes for the boys’ team this year.

The swimming teams are now practicing at the Jewish Community Center in Deal, New Jersey rather than the YMCA or Monmouth University as they did in previous years. However, the team will not allow the constant change with the locations of the practices to deter them from their goals for the year. On December 2, the boys started the season by swimming against RBC. The Shore Regional swimming team won by a wide margin. However, their next met did not go as well as the season opener. Mrs. McGowan stated, ¨On Friday, the boys came from a significant deficit to tie up the meet vs Ranney in the second to last event.  Despite a great effort, we lost in the final relay.  However, the team did a great job of persevering and making a really close meet out of it.  We were missing several swimmers, which hurt us, but we hope to move forward with a WIN today over Monmouth Regional!¨ We wish them good luck with their meet against Monmouth Regional High school on Tuesday, December eighth.
